Adhering to set standards is a pivotal part of success in the security industry. Here, Lee Buckerfield gives us an insight into his multifaceted role as Compliance Manager at ATEC.
“Maintaining quality systems across our entire operation is basically what my job entails,” explains Lee. “There are the more generic business standards such as Health and Safety, ISO 9001 and BS EN 14001 that I maintain for ATEC, as well as the more specific, such as Link Up, which is for our work within the rail industry.”
“We are currently applying to become a National Security Inspectorate Gold company. NSI was formed in 2001 from the joining of the ISI (Inspectorate of the Security Industry) and NACOSS (National Approval Council for Security Systems) to create a unified inspectorate, covering all elements of the security industry.
“To comply with these and other regulations, most of which are renewed annually, requires both internal audits and official external audits to be carried out. The paperwork is pretty significant, however each is absolutely vital for ATEC’s operations to run safely and to within set boundaries.”
Before his promotion to Compliance Manager in January 2008, Lee worked as a Project Manager from the start of his career at ATEC in 2004. “My skills and experience as a project manager at ATEC certainly set me up well for my new role. I understand the way operations are carried out and therefore can easily translate the often complex world of compliance policies into digestible staff communication.”
Prior to joining ATEC, Lee was a Design Engineer at Rover Group for ten years, following his qualification as a mechanical engineer. His skills in design and using CAD certainly prepared him for the project management side of his ATEC role.
