Security for hospitals and healthcare

Surveillance, access control, alarms and ANPR brought together in one view, so help reaches staff quickly and the right doors stay shut, on a site that never closes.

Staff are being hurt at work

In the 2025 NHS Staff Survey, published in March 2026, 14.47% of respondents in England reported at least one incident of physical violence from a patient, a relative or a member of the public in the previous twelve months. Among ambulance staff it is around half.

Healthcare-1

A&E is hectic and rushed at two in the morning

Long waits, alcohol, drugs and people in mental health crisis, all in one waiting room with nowhere else to send them. Staff cannot walk away and cannot turn anyone out. Since Right Care, Right Person changed how police respond to mental health calls, more of that load has shifted onto clinical staff and onto whoever the trust has on the door.

Healthcare-2

Dealing with vulnerable newborns and patients who wander

A baby must never leave a ward in the wrong arms, and a patient with dementia should not get out through a door somebody propped open. Maternity, paediatrics and elderly care wards have to stay open and welcoming for families, and still keep the wrong person out and the vulnerable in. You need to be able to say who went through which door and when.

Healthcare-3

Drugs, stores and the doors that stay shut

Pharmacy, drug stores, theatres, pathology and records need to be closed to nearly everyone, inside a building where thousands of people walk about freely. Equipment and personal belongings go missing regularly, and a good deal of it is taken by people who are entitled to be in the building. That is an uncomfortable realisation and it is the reason the security evidence matters.

How ATEC protects the healthcare sector

Help arrives, and the incident is on record

A panic alarm at a reception desk or in a treatment room reaches the control room immediately and puts the camera covering that space on screen at the same moment. Whoever responds knows what they are walking into before they get there. Afterwards, footage is what turns an incident report into something the police will take forward.

Security coverage where you need it

Incidents cluster in certain areas, the waiting room, the reception line, the ambulance bay and the corridors around them. Analytics can flag a crowd building or a movement pattern that looks like a confrontation starting, putting the right camera in front of security staff early, rather than after a member of staff has already hit the alarm.

Wards that stay open and still controlled

Access control on ward doors, lifts and stairwells lets staff and expected visitors through and stops everyone else. It ties into infant protection and absconding systems. When a tagged infant or patient reaches a monitored exit, the system raises the alarm and brings up the camera on that door automatically.

Restricted areas, and detailed logs

Pharmacy, drug stores, theatres, pathology and records sit behind a credential only the right people hold, with every entry recorded. Permissions need to come off the day somebody changes role. When a question comes up about a controlled drugs store, the door event and the camera covering it should answer it in minutes.
