Avigilon
A Motorola Solutions company
Solving for safer, everywhere
Video security, access control and an industry leading Alta cloud solution
Avigilon, a Motorola Solutions company, design and manufacture video security and access control technology from Vancouver, Canada. Formed in 2004 and part of Motorola Solutions since 2018, they hold over 750 patents and offer two platforms: the cloud-native Avigilon Alta suite and Avigilon Unity for on-premise deployments.
Why does ATEC partner with Avigilon?
Cameras, analytics and software from a single source
We partner with Avigilon because they design and build their own cameras and analytics, so the hardware and software seamlessly work together. Their self-learning analytics cut footage review time considerably, and the cloud-native Alta suite provides one of the best paths to cloud access control and video when customers want to go that route.

Avigilon's strengths in detail
In-house design and
manufacture
Avigilon designs and manufactures its own cameras, holding over 750 patents and producing hardware in the United States and Canada. For an installer, this vertical integration means cameras, analytics and video management software are engineered to work together, rather than assembled from third-party parts with the compatibility gaps that brings.
AI-powered
video analytics
Avigilon builds AI-powered video analytics directly into its camera and software range, including Appearance Search, which lets operators quickly find a specific person or vehicle across a whole site, and Unusual Motion Detection, which flags activity that doesn’t fit the normal pattern. This cuts the time spent scrubbing through hours of CCTV footage after an incident.
Avigilon Unity
for on-premise
Avigilon Unity is the on-premise side of the portfolio, combining Unity Video for video management with Access Control Manager for access control. For customers whose policy or infrastructure rules out cloud, this means a full enterprise platform rather than a cut-down alternative, managed entirely on their own servers and network infrastructure.
One camera range,
either platform
The same H6A camera range runs on either Avigilon Unity on-premise or Avigilon Alta cloud, rather than needing different hardware for each. A site can start on-premise and move to cloud later, or run both across an estate, without having to replace the cameras already installed.
Alta build for the cloud
from the outset
Avigilon Alta was built for the cloud from the outset. Alta’s patented Triple Unlock authenticates over Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and mobile data at once, giving sub-second entry at 99.9% reliability, while Wave to Unlock opens doors with the phone still pocketed. Readers keep working if the internet drops, and existing MIFARE and HID Proximity cards continue to work alongside mobile credentials.
Backed by
Motorola Solutions
Since 2018, Avigilon has been part of Motorola Solutions, bringing considerably more research budget than it had independently, plus integration with radio and command centre technology. For customers whose security sits alongside wider operational or public safety systems, that broader ecosystem is genuinely useful rather than just a corporate talking point.
