Video Synopsis: Making video searchable, actionable and quantifiable
Patented video synopsis for rapid footage review and search
BriefCam developed VIDEO SYNOPSIS, patented technology that condenses hours of recorded surveillance into a short, searchable summary. Founded in Israel in 2007, BriefCam has operated as an integrated product within Milestone Systems since 2024, and is also supplied as XProtect Rapid REVIEW within the Milestone product range.
Why does ATEC partner with BriefCam?
A full day of footage reviewed in minutes, changing what a security team can achieve
BriefCam is camera-agnostic and runs alongside an existing video management system, so analytics are added without replacing cameras. Review of a full day’s footage is completed in minutes, which changes what a customer’s security team can achieve following an incident with the staff they already have.
BriefCam's strengths
at a glance
- Hours of recorded footage provided as a summary
- Camera-agnostic, running alongside other systems
- Also available as a standalone system
- Processing servers can be added as demand grows
- Cameras can be added after commissioning
- Deep learning extracts object attributes including colour, size, speed and direction
BriefCam's strengths in detail
Video Synopsis overlays and filtering
VIDEO SYNOPSIS overlays multiple recorded events from different times onto a single frame, each tagged with its original timestamp and filterable by object type. Hours of footage are reviewed in minutes. A security team investigating an incident reaches the relevant footage within a single working shift.
Runs alongside the existing VMS
BriefCam is camera-agnostic and integrates with leading video management systems including Milestone XProtect. Cameras, recording servers and storage already installed remain in place and continue to operate as before. Advanced review capability is added to a working system as a software layer, which keeps the upgrade within a manageable budget.
Standalone powerful review capability where required
For organisations that need file-based review without a full video management deployment, BriefCam also operates as a standalone system. Agencies handling footage submitted from third-party sources, including public or dashcam material, can process it directly. The same review capability applies whether video comes from a managed estate or from external files.
Architecture that scales based on number of GPUs
BriefCam separates the synopsis, research and processing server roles, which can run on one machine for smaller systems or across dedicated processing servers as camera counts rise. Processing capacity is determined by the number of GPUs. A system is sized to the daily volume of video the customer needs processed.
Adding cameras later through simple license extension
Licences are extended by applying an updated licence file to the existing installation, covering additional cameras or channels. Expansion is handled without reinstalling the system. A customer adding a building or a new camera run brings it into the existing deployment as a licensing exercise.
Deep learning extracts object attributes for search
Deep learning extracts structured metadata from recorded video, including object class, colour, size, speed and direction of travel. Searches are constructed from those attributes to locate a specific person or vehicle across the whole camera estate. Footage becomes a queryable data set covering the full retention period.
