FLIR
The Global Leader in Thermal Imaging
Pioneers of infrared imaging since 1978
FLIR pioneered infrared imaging from 1978, originally for airborne use, and are now a world leader in thermal imaging camera design and manufacture. Operating as Teledyne FLIR since the 2021 acquisition by Teledyne Technologies, they develop thermal, visible-light and acoustic imaging for security, defence and industrial markets.
Why does ATEC partner with FLIR?
Detection through total darkness, smoke and light fog
We partner with FLIR because their thermal cameras really see through total darkness, smoke and light fog where standard CCTV falls short. For customers protecting large outdoor perimeters or critical infrastructure, this gives a reliable layer of detection regardless of lighting conditions, and their network-compatible cameras integrate cleanly with existing video management systems.

FLIR's strengths in detail
Pioneers in infrared technology since 1978
FLIR was founded in 1978 to pioneer high-performance, low-cost infrared imaging for airborne applications, giving the business decades of specialist experience in thermal technology. Since being acquired by Teledyne Technologies in 2021, FLIR has operated as Teledyne FLIR, gaining access to considerably greater scale and R&D resources.
Detection through darkness, smoke and fog
FLIR’s thermal cameras detect heat rather than light, allowing them to see through total darkness, smoke and light fog where a standard camera would fall short. For customers protecting large perimeters or critical infrastructure, this gives reliable detection regardless of lighting or weather conditions on site.
MSX technology produces sharper images
FLIR’s MSX technology overlays fine visible-light detail onto a thermal image in real time, producing a sharper, more recognisable picture than thermal imaging alone typically provides. This provides thermal footage that’s more useful for identifying what’s actually happening on screen, rather than a vague heat signature that’s hard to interpret.
Range of form factors for all environments
FLIR offers thermal imaging in fixed, PTZ and multi-sensor configurations, allowing the right form factor to be specified for a given site rather than forcing a single camera type onto every application. This results in a thermal solution that can be matched properly to the specific perimeter or building layout being protected.
Onboard AI analytics within the camera
Several FLIR thermal cameras include onboard AI analytics, processing detection directly at the camera rather than requiring a separate analytics server. This can reduce the overall infrastructure needed for a perimeter security system, since some of the intelligent detection happens at the edge instead of centrally.
NDAA-compliant options for sensitive projects
FLIR offers NDAA-compliant camera options for government and defence-sensitive projects, where sourcing restrictions on certain manufacturers apply. For our customers working on government or critical national infrastructure projects, this compliance is often a baseline procurement requirement, and having it available from a well-established thermal specialist simplifies specification.
